Giovanni Falcone, (May 18, 1939 — May 23, 1992) was an Italian magistrate who specialised in prosecuting Cosa Nostra crimes.Falcone was killed with his wife Francesca Morvillo (herself a magistrate) and three policemen: Rocco Di Cillo, Antonio Montinaro, Vito Schifani, in Capaci on the motorway between Palermo International Airport and the city of Palermo ( 38°10′58″N, 13°14′41″E) on May 23, 1992.

The car in which he was travelling was blown up by a bomb that had been placed in trenches dug by the side of the road.

When passing over the bomb, Falcone was driving his car at an estimated speed of nearly 100mph (160kph.)

Fact based story about the political battle that was waged against the Mafia in Sicily during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. Chazz Palminteri plays Giovanni Falcone, a crusading prosecutor who tried to use money trails as a way to attack the mobsters.

He is aided by a former mobster (F. Murray Abraham) who volunteers to turn state’s evidence after his sons are killed by a renegade mob chief. With the mobster’s help, the prosecutor was able to obtain over 300 convictions.

Ce film raconte l’histoire d’une victoire contre la Mafia et des hommes qui l’ont rendue possible : Giovanni Falcone et Paolo Borsellino. Leur assassinat spectaculaire, en 1992, constitue toujours une plaie ouverte, en Sicile et partout ailleurs dans le pays.

Le document montre que d’essentielles figures du gouvernement italien ont soutenu et encouragé la Mafia et ceux qui servent la Cosa Nostra, exposant, du même coup, les «autres», les «incorruptibles», aux balles des pistolets mafieux.

CADÁVERES EXCELENTES. MAFIA Y POLÍTICA

Cadáveres excelentes es la reciente historia de Cosa Nostra de la mano de dos testigos de excepción: el escritor norteamericano Alexander Stille, especialista en la organización criminal, y la veterana fotógrafa siciliana Leticia Battaglia, que durante más de 20 años ha registrado con su cámara los crímenes mafiosos.

Es un homenaje a Giovanni Falcone y Paolo Borsellino, instructores del maxiproceso de Palermo que pagaron con sus vidas el haber tenido el valor de sentar por primera vez ante la justicia a 19 de los capos más importantes de la mafia siciliana, que fueron condenados a cadena perpetua.

Il 23 maggio 1992, sull’autostrada A29, nei pressi dello svincolo di Capaci e a pochi chilometri da Palermo, persero la vita il magistrato antimafia Giovanni Falcone, sua moglie Francesca Morvillo e i tre agenti della scorta, Vito Schifani, Rocco Dicillo, Antonio Montinaro. Se non sentiamo che quel tritolo ha ucciso anche noi, allora la memoria diventa solo celebrazioni e retorica.
Queste morti graffiano dentro le nostre coscienze e ci costringono a fare di più, tutti quandi a fare di più.
Per noi il 23 maggio è una lezione di vita e di coraggio, una lezione di cui non conosciamo ancora tutte le verità.
In Italia, purtroppo, non c’è una strage di cui si conosca a pieno la verità.
